Sure, you’ve heard of iconic spots like the Soggy Dollar Bar, Willy T’s, Sandy Spit, and the Treasure Caves at Norman Island. But if you’re looking for something a little more exclusive, head to the North Sound of Virgin Gorda.

Tucked away and a bit harder to reach, the North Sound is a true slice of paradise. Norman Island is a must-see destination in the beautiful British Virgin Islands, known for its incredible snorkeling and rich history. If you’re a fan of underwater adventure and pirate lore, this spot is hard to beat. It’s even said to be the inspiration behind the book Treasure Island.

One of the top snorkeling spots is the Indians, a cluster of four rocky outcroppings rising from the sea. These rocks are home to some of the healthiest coral reefs in the region, filled with vibrant fish and colorful coral. Nate and his team provide high-quality snorkel gear, making the experience smooth, comfortable, and beginner friendly.

Another favorite stop is the Treasure Caves, a group of three sea caves surrounded by calm, clear blue water. It’s a great place to explore and perfect for the whole family. Back in 1865, the Creque family from St. Thomas discovered a chest of Spanish gold doubloons in one of these caves. They later opened the first jewelry store in what is now known as Creque Alley.

Both the Indians and the Treasure Caves offer amazing snorkeling and we look forward to showing you the beauty beneath the surface.

When it’s time for lunch, you have two great options. For something fun and lively, enjoy a meal on the floating pirate ship Willy T. With a fresh catch of the day, burgers, chicken tenders, and tropical cocktails, there’s something for everyone.

Lime Out Taco Boat: Swim into the floating taco boat and enjoy a delicious taco or craft cocktail on one of the lily pads with your group. Lime Out has amazing food, drinks, and a great merchandise catalog to check out. If you don’t want to swim in, they can deliver to the boat. Either way, it’s a must-do!

Pizza Pi: Ever had pizza while floating on the blue waters? Pizza Pi is the one and only floating pizza boat! Serving up fresh and hot pizza every day in Christmas Cove just outside the island of Great St. James. Pizza Pi offers tons of specialty Pi’s and all of your regular favorites. They will deliver anywhere in the cove, or you can swim in and enjoy your Pi on one of their comfy floats.

spots away from the crowds. We focus on getting to those spots that you can’t access
from land. St. Thomas Boat Charters has quality snorkel gear, and flotation devices that
will make the whole experience very easy and stress free. The boat has a custom built
dive ladder that makes getting in and out of the water very easy. Now let’s talk about a
few of our favorite snorkel spots on the US side.

1. Christmas Cove. Home to the famous shipwreck and fish cay. We love to spend
   time checking out all the colorful fish and coral at Fish Cay. The coral is so
   healthy and there are thousands of fish to check out. This snorkel is great for
   both beginners and advanced snorkelers. Another epic spot inside Christmas
   Cove is the shipwreck. Snorkel around the shipwreck and hang out with the local
   turtles that are very laid back and easygoing.
2. Lovango Cay. Check out the healthy and lively shallow water reef. Lovango cay
   has an extremely vibrant array of fish and colorful corals to check out. If you want
   to stay close to the boat, there are tons of fish to see right below the surface
   under the boat. We often will see a nurse shark sleeping on the bottom, or a
   hawksbill turtle hanging out in the coral. Lovango is always a great spot to check
   out!
3. Maho Bay St. John. If you want the best chance to swim and snorkel with giant
   turtles, this is a must see during your day on the water. Maho Bay has a special
   grass on the bottom that the turtles love to munch on, and you will get the chance
   to snorkel with a turtle and most times a remora. Maho Bay is always calm, and a
   great place to start for all levels of snorkeling.

This month, we’ve had some amazing snorkeling adventures! Last week at Christmas Cove, we spotted a family of vibrant starfish—a special treat since they move surprisingly fast across the ocean floor.

Maho Bay has been another highlight, offering incredible opportunities to swim alongside majestic green sea turtles. These gentle creatures love the sea grass, and if you’re patient, they’ll glide right up to you for an up-close experience.

Fish Cay, off Epstein Island, has also been a favorite spot this month. With thriving coral reefs and an abundance of colorful marine life, it’s a snorkeler’s paradise. On most days, you’ll encounter pufferfish, parrotfish, sergeant majors, and even the occasional lobster.
