World-famous for its pristine waters, expansive coral reefs, and teeming flora and fauna, the Virgin Islands has become one of the world’s premier snorkeling hotspots. If snorkeling is part of your ideal St. Thomas boat charter, Nate’s Custom Charters would love to make that, and the rest of your dream charter, happen. Snorkeling gear, water toys, beer, soda, and water are all provided free of charge. If you’ve never snorkeled before, Captain Nate will be sure to show you the ropes, and with Nate’s Custom Charters, safety and fun are priorities number one and two. Here are Captain Nate’s favorite Virgin Islands snorkeling spots for families:
Treasure Caves (Norman Island)
Clear waters, no current, and vibrant plant and wildlife make the Norman Island treasure caves a great destination for families and first time snorkelers. Dive in pursuit of buried treasure like in Treasure Island. Swim with fish, explore the mysterious caves, and have a great time with your friends and family. Just make sure to keep your eyes peeled; you never know if you’re going to spot a stray piece of eight!
Leinster Bay (St. John)
One of the less crowded snorkeling spots in the Virgin Islands, to get to the best snorkeling spots in Leinster Bay from St. John, most people have to take a 30 minute walk. Captain Nate will take you right there on his boat! Swim with turtles, stingrays, and barracuda in the middle of the bay, or explore the beautiful corals and play with the reef fish. Also conveniently located next to a beautiful and often secluded pebble beach.
Christmas Cove (Great St. James)
One of the most scenic and relaxed snorkeling spots of the US Virgin Islands, Christmas Cove is a white sand beach with clear water, easy boat access, and some of the best snorkeling in the world! Swim with turtles and stingrays and explore the magnificent underwater beauty of the Virgin Islands. A great snorkeling spot for families and first time snorkelers.
Buck Island (St. Thomas)
Buck Island is a beautifully preserved national park and wildlife refuge in St. Thomas. Boat by the historic lighthouse and make sure you visit the two primetime snorkeling spots in Buck Island. Visit the ruins of the Cartanza Señora, a ship downed in the 1970’s at Shipwreck Cove. Shipwreck Cove also features its own coral reef where you can find tropical fish and barracudas. Turtle Cove has an abundance of green sea turtles, stringrays, and tropical fish.
